Man charged in fatal Oakland shooting of man after housing dispute
Briefly

John Cvar, 72, has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of Aknico Heidengren, 33, in his family's North Oakland home. The incident occurred on August 9 when Cvar and his brother confronted Heidengren, who was living in the house without permission. After Heidengren refused to leave, a physical altercation ensued. In an attempt to scare Heidengren, Cvar fired a revolver, inadvertently striking Heidengren in the neck. Heidengren managed to escape but collapsed outside. He was pronounced dead on the scene shortly thereafter.
Cvar's youngest brother was living there; because of health issues, Cvar and another brother routinely checked on him.
Cvar allegedly pulled out a revolver he had brought with him... a shot he fired hit Heidengren in the neck.
Heidengren was discovered living at the home by the other brother and was asked to leave, but was apparently hesitant to do so.
John Cvar was arrested later the same day and the gun was recovered.
