Gas tax increase among new California laws taking effect Tuesday. Here's what you need to know
Briefly

Starting July 1, Californians will face an increase in gas tax, raising charges to 61.2 cents per gallon for regular gas and 46.6 cents for diesel. Gas prices might not spike immediately due to decreasing oil costs. Additionally, various state laws will take effect, including wage increases for healthcare workers, transparency requirements for short-term rentals, easier subscription cancellations, and mandatory lids for alcoholic drinks in restaurants to enhance safety for consumers. Californians currently pay nearly 90 cents per gallon in taxes and fees.
Californians will see an increase in the gas tax by more than a penny for regular gasoline and just under one cent for diesel, totaling 61.2 cents per gallon.
The gas tax for diesel will rise from 45.4 cents to 46.6 cents per gallon as part of the changes taking effect.
These changes reflect a broader set of new laws impacting various sectors, including healthcare wages and rental property regulations.
One new law mandates that restaurants provide lids for alcoholic beverages upon customer request to prevent potential spiking.
