A group of onlookers witnessed 35 to 40 humpback whales in a California bay engaging in unique mating behaviors, as they prepare for their yearly migration.
During the mating season, male humpbacks perform behaviors such as tail lobbing, fast surfacing, and breaching to attract females and secure breeding partners.
Whales reach sexual maturity between 4 and 10 years old and remain dependent on their mothers for a year before becoming independent.
Visitors are encouraged to observe these remarkable humpback whales during the competition for mates, before they commence their migration south.
