San Diego County is facing potential drought conditions due to fierce Santa Ana winds that have further dried the region after a long dry period since March.
Forecast models indicate that the area will remain mostly dry until Christmas Eve, as the jet stream prevents significant storms from reaching Southern California.
The Santa Ana winds, originating from the east instead of the typical north-northeast, gained speed through mountain passes and led to gusts reaching hurricane force in some areas.
Weather service forecaster Alex Tardy noted that following the hot summer, the start of winter could be significantly affected by a lack of rainfall.
