California is making it easier for seniors to renew driver's licenses. Here's how
Briefly

"All drivers have been required to take a written test once they turn 70 as a policy requirement and not a requirement of law," DMV Director Steve Gordon said in a Monday news release. "We are eliminating the written knowledge test for those without traffic violations on their record to improve customer service." This change emphasizes customer service improvement and recognizes the capabilities of drivers who maintain a clean record.
Some renewal notices for customers with licenses that expire in 2024 may indicate a knowledge test is required, but it will be waived during the in-office visit," the DMV said. This means that although the automatic notification suggests a test requirement, the policy change simplifies the process for most elderly drivers, aiding their renewal experience.
