Body found in Santa Cruz Mountains ID'd as 73-year-old who went missing in 2025
"A body found in the Santa Cruz Mountains last month was confirmed to be a 73-year-old woman who was reported missing in November. On Saturday, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office identified the woman as Jeanne Burke, who had been missing since Nov. 18. She was considered "at risk" for medical reasons. Burke was last seen near the Felton Quarry, a quiet, scenic area in the hills, where she was walking toward Empire Grade Road."
"More than 100 people from several agencies searched for Burke near Smith Grade Road, Moore Ranch Road and other nearby areas. Rescue crews discovered a body, later identified as Burke, in a "densely wooded area" of the search zone on Jan. 18. The sheriff's office did not provide details surrounding Burke's death. "We are grateful to the many agencies that assisted in the search efforts, as well as to the Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team for their persistence"
