According to the NWS San Francisco CA, Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, the NWS said. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
Officials recovered a body Saturday afternoon off the coast of Davenport in Santa Cruz County, several miles north of a beach where a woman had been reported missing and a shark had been spotted. Around 1 p.m., Cal Fire firefighters used a rope system to recover the body from the beach south of Davenport. The agency posted photos online of the firefighters setting up a rope system to recover the body from the beach to the bluffs.
The crash happened around 10:39 a.m. Dec. 14 in the southbound lanes just south of Vine Hill Road, near the north edge of Scotts Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol's Santa Cruz office. CHP investigators said the 49-year-old man was driving a 2025 Toyota Tacoma when, for reasons still under investigation, the truck left the roadway and struck a tree near the right shoulder.

Cal Fire said the region experienced 173 lightning strikes within a 24 hour period, five of which were confirmed within the unit's coverage area of Santa Cruz and San Mateo counties.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims. Christopher John Weekes, 32, of Soquel, was arrested Tuesday on five counts of child sex crimes, including lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14, oral copulation with a minor and forcible sexual penetration with a foreign object. Weekes was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on $150,000 bail per charge, according to jail records.
