The Santa Cruz County Sheriff Coroner's Office identified the body recovered on Jan. 18 near Smith Grade and Moore Ranch Road as 73-year-old Jeanne Burke. Burke was reported missing Nov. 18 and was described as an at-risk elderly woman. Search and rescue teams discovered the body in Bonny Doon after a multiweek search that canvassed the Santa Cruz Mountains and San Lorenzo Valley. The search involved as many as 80–100 emergency officials and volunteers and continued through last month when the discovery was made. Multiple counties and statewide agencies provided assistance, with the Governor's Office coordinating mutual aid, the National Guard, mountain rescue, American Red Cross, and telecommunications support. The Sheriff's Office extended deepest condolences to Burke's family and friends and commended Search and Rescue persistence and dedication.
