Bicyclist hit by driver in Palo Alto dies from injuries
"An initial investigation determined the bicyclist, a man in his 80s, was traveling southbound in the bicycle lane when he moved into the traffic lanes and was hit by a 2022 Mercedes-Benz, police said. The bicyclist suffered a major head injury in the crash, police said, adding that he was wearing a helmet at the time. He was taken to an area hospital, where he later died."
"The driver, a person in their 90s, stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role. At about 12:20 p.m. on Oct. 4 in the 3400 block of Foothill Expressway near Hillview Avenue, a man in his 80s moved from the bicycle lane into traffic and was struck by a 2022 Mercedes-Benz. The bicyclist sustained a major head injury, was wearing a helmet, and was transported to a hospital where he later died. The driver, a person in their 90s, remained at the scene and cooperated. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner will release the victim's identity after confirmation and next-of-kin notification. Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved; the cause remains under investigation.
