Bay Area Six Flags employee arrested after woman found dead in attic
"According to family members, Lewis stopped contacting them in late September, prompting fears she had gone missing. When they checked a tracking app, they reportedly discovered her phone was in Vallejo. According to KTVU, Lewis' loved ones went searching for the last known location of her phone and found it on the roof of a school. On Sept. 28, they filed a missing persons report with the Vallejo Police Department, which soon zeroed in on a house on 14th Street."
"Two days later, investigators returned with a search warrant to more thoroughly comb the property. During that search, police said they found a "concealed entry into the attic." Inside the space, police said they stumbled onto Lewis' remains. The suspect, Douglas Irwin Shaw, 41, was arrested at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, where he was an employee. "Following his arrest, Douglas Shaw provided a statement to detectives where he admitted being responsible for this heinous crime," police said."
Renia Lewis, who lived in Berkeley and would have turned 29 this week, ceased contacting family in late September and her phone tracked to Vallejo. Relatives found the device on a school roof and filed a missing persons report with Vallejo Police on Sept. 28. Police investigated a residence on 14th Street; an initial cursory search found no signs. Two days later, officers returned with a warrant, discovered a concealed attic entry, and located Lewis' remains. Douglas Irwin Shaw, 41, was arrested at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, admitted responsibility to detectives, and faces a murder charge with bail denied. Family members say they know no connection between Lewis and Shaw or the residence, and officials are seeking public assistance.
