
"A man driving out of a Bay Area hardware store suffered major injuries after he was hit by a deputy from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office who was chasing vehicles allegedly involved in street racing, officials said. The crash happened Sunday evening just before 6 p.m. on Santa Rose Avenue, north of Mountain View Avenue, in Santa Rosa, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release."
"The deputy was driving with emergency lights on, south on Santa Rosa Avenue, as they were chasing the vehicles, CHP said. During the chase, the deputy drove by Friedman's Home Improvement, which is also on Santa Rosa Avenue, and swerved left as a Ford Focus was pulling out of the parking lot. The deputy's car ended up crashing into the left side of the Ford, CHP said."
"The Ford driver had major injuries and was transported to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. According to KTVU-TV, the driver is a 78-year-old military veteran, and his dog in the car experienced minor injuries. The deputy and a police dog that was also in the car had minor injuries and are expected to be OK. The crash closed the road for nearly three hours."
A deputy from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office was pursuing vehicles allegedly involved in street racing when the deputy struck a Ford Focus exiting a hardware store on Santa Rosa Avenue just before 6 p.m. Two cars had been stopped at a red light at Santa Rosa Avenue and Todd Road and allegedly drove away racing, prompting the chase. The deputy, driving with emergency lights on, swerved as the Ford pulled from the parking lot and hit the left side of the vehicle. The Ford driver suffered major injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial; his dog had minor injuries. The deputy and a police dog sustained minor injuries. The crash caused extensive vehicle damage and closed the road for nearly three hours while CHP investigated; anyone with information is asked to call Santa Rosa CHP at 707-806-5600.
