""There was literally a murderer on the loose in the Fresno area..." Juju Chang says."
""Even after he retired from Fresno law enforcement, he stayed on unpaid to continue to follow leads. In fact, he was there the day that they arrested Nickey Stane," Chang said."
""Well, you'll see Vince Zavala roll up onto this fast-food restaurant in a mall that Nickey Stane is working at, confront him, and then you see additional surveillance video of the interrogation..." Chang said."
""It was a fascinating cat and mouse game that was going on from the very moment that Vince made contact with him all the way through the interrogations in the interrogation room..." Chang said."
Debbie Dorian, 22 and a recent Fresno State graduate, was found dead in her northeast Fresno apartment in 1996 after her father discovered her body. Investigators pursued the case for decades, and a DNA match and persistent detective work led to identification and arrest of suspect Nickey Stane 23 years later. Investigator Vince Zavala remained on the case unpaid even after retirement and was present at the arrest. Body-cam and surveillance video documented the arrest at a fast-food restaurant and subsequent interrogations. Stane attempted to mislead investigators. Multiple women, including a previously anonymous survivor from Visalia, reported sexual assaults by Stane.
