A single-pilot tanker plane contracted by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management disappeared in eastern Oregon while fighting wildfires near Seneca on the edge of the Malheur National Forest. The search for the missing aircraft has been unsuccessful so far, with the pilot being the sole occupant on board.
Climate change is exacerbating the situation, increasing the frequency of lightning strikes, alongside extreme heat and dry conditions across the Pacific Northwest. Over 1,500 square miles have burnt in the U.S. alone, underscoring the severity of the wildfire crisis.
