Ford is expanding initiatives to address a growing shortage in skilled trades and calls that sector the essential economy. Ford hosted a CEO summit to encourage investment in productivity for firefighters, EMTs, plumbers, electricians, service technicians, factory workers and similar roles. Research from the Aspen Institute values the essential economy at $7.5 trillion and 52 million jobs. Tech Force estimates the US needs more than 100,000 new automotive technician jobs annually to meet demand and replace retirees.
