
"SAN JOSE - Two tech companies have each decided to chop dozens of jobs in the South Bay in the latest sign that the key industry sector continues to seek ways to operate more efficiently. Lumileds and Couchbase have revealed plans to eliminate a combined total of 108 jobs, all in San Jose, according to official WARN notices the tech companies have sent to the state Employment Development Department."
"* Couchbase, an artificial intelligence company, is cutting 48 jobs at its office in the Santana Row mixed-use neighborhood of West San Jose. Couchbase plans to conduct the layoffs on Jan. 12 of next year. Both companies stated that the job cuts would be permanent. In both instances, none of the affected employees has the right to displace another worker, even one with less seniority than the worker who is losing a job, the WARN notices state."

Lumileds will cut 60 positions at 370 West Trimble Road in North San Jose; Lumileds manufactures LEDs for automotive, general and specialty lighting, and the layoffs are scheduled for Jan. 30, 2026. Couchbase will cut 48 positions at its Santana Row office in West San Jose, with layoffs planned for Jan. 12 of next year. Both companies stated the cuts are permanent, and affected employees have no displacement rights under the WARN notices.
