Sir Keir Starmer launched a fast-track review of licensing laws to allow later opening hours and easier outdoor food and drink service. Landlords and community groups can respond during a four-week consultation. The review will consider nine Licensing Taskforce recommendations including streamlining on-trade alcohol licensing and cutting alcohol duty. London's hospitality faces high rents, staff shortages, increased employer national insurance and living wage pressures. The British Beer and Pub Association estimates 378 pub closures this year, up from 350, costing over 5,000 jobs. Business leaders urged modernising licensing to reflect post-pandemic operational realities and support economic growth.
