Japanese automakers Honda and Nissan are in talks to merge, aiming to create the world’s third-largest automaker and adapt to the industry's shift from fossil fuels.
Honda's president highlighted the intention to unify their operations under a joint holding company, indicating that Honda will initially lead the new management.
The target is to formalize a merger agreement by June 2026, with plans to list the holding company on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while acknowledging the risks involved.
Despite moving toward collaboration, Mibe noted the low probability of the merger failing, stating, "the possibility of this not being implemented is not zero."
