DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez emphasized that modern technology is crucial for tackling complex infrastructure challenges. Since implementing WIM, monthly violations have significantly decreased from an average of 7,920 overweight vehicles to just hundreds today. This technology utilizes sensors and cameras for identifying overweight trucks, and authorities are discussing expanding its use statewide before the current authority expires in 2025.
