SakeBrooklyn To Open Brewery And Taproom In Gowanus
SakeBrooklyn is planning a full-scale sake brewery and public taproom in Gowanus at 500 Degraw Street, taking about 6,500 square feet at the northern corner of the Society Brooklyn development. The project is targeted to open in early 2027. The space will combine on-site brewing with a tasting room offering a small-plates menu designed to pair with a rotating selection of traditional and experimental sakes. The concept aims to broaden sake’s audience by blending Japanese brewing methods with an American craft beverage sensibility. A small-batch “SakeBrooklyn Labs” program will focus on experimental releases available primarily in the taproom, supported by an informal, social approach to tasting.
"SakeBrooklyn signed for about 6,500 square feet on the northern corner of the Society Brooklyn development at 500 Degraw. Cushman & Wakefield represented the towers' ownership, while Igloo negotiated on behalf of the tenant. Igloo's Adam Joly described the project as a "destination" for the neighborhood. The outlet notes that the asking rent was not disclosed."
"The company's co-founders, Dutch Fox and Leslie Fox, told Brooklyn Paper they want to broaden sake's audience by pairing traditional Japanese brewing methods with an American craft beverage sensibility. Brooklyn Paper reports that the taproom will offer small plates designed to play off the drinks and that guests will be able to try both classic and more adventurous styles. The outlet frames the project as a relaxed, social way to get into sake rather than a buttoned-up tasting-only setup."
"SakeBrooklyn's website highlights on-site brewing, a rotating tap list, and a small-batch "SakeBrooklyn Labs" program focused on experimental releases that will be available primarily in the taproom. The company leans into an easygoing approach, saying "you don't need to know sake to enjoy it," and notes that drinks will be paired with shareable bites, per the brand's site."
