"Over the pandemic, I really developed a sense of community with the other neighbors in very close proximity to my own apartment and just felt like I was really dialed in and connected to the people in Park Slope,"
"I felt like I would be kicking myself if I didn't inquire,"
"RIDER, the name itself, is based on riding the wave of life,"
"I really believe in the power of gifting in general,"
Alma Lacour founded RIDER as an independent gift shop and community space in Park Slope. Lacour moved to Park Slope eight years ago and settled near where her son was born; the early pandemic strengthened neighborhood ties. After a career in advertising and experiential production, Lacour pursued a storefront opportunity when a nearby dry cleaner closed and a community-minded landlord supported the transition. RIDER's name reflects riding the wave of life. The shop is warm, whimsical and intentional, offering curated home goods, art objects, children's items and design-forward pieces chosen for gifting and storytelling.
