Professional Soccer Kicks Off in Coney Island in August
Briefly

The Brooklyn Football Club, or Brooklyn FC, had a ribbon-cutting ceremony at their new turf at Maimonides Park in Coney Island. The professional women's team is set to start playing in August 2024, while the men's team will start in 2025, as announced in a news release.
"What we're trying to do here in Brooklyn is build a transformational hub for U.S. soccer and rethink soccer clubs in an innovative way," said Matt Rizzetta, CEO of North Sixth Group and chairman of BKFC.
"To us, this is really a project where we need to join hands. We need to join hands with the community, large and small businesses, hospitals, schools, and the people who identify with Brooklyn. We need to do this together," Rizzetta emphasized.
In addition to Brooklyn FC, the organization also owns Two Bridges FC, a youth soccer development nonprofit, offering free professional development and training.
