The streets of Brooklyn buzzed with excitement over the weekend, marking the Lunar New Year with vibrant festivities. The Brooklyn Lunar New Year Celebration kicked off on Feb. 1 in Sunset Park, organized by the Better Brooklyn Association, featuring live performances, community awards, and traditional rituals. Elected officials supporting the Asian-American community were honored during the event. The celebrations continued with the 18th Avenue Parade in Bensonhurst on Feb. 2, showcasing cultural performances and a festive atmosphere, highlighting the importance of the Lunar New Year in East and Southeast Asian cultures through communal participation.
Lunar New Year celebrations kicked off on Feb. 1 with the Brooklyn Lunar New Year Celebration & Prosperity Street Festival in Sunset Park, organized by the Better Brooklyn Association.
Firecrackers and lion dances set the tone for the traditional ritual cleansing of homes and businesses to usher in good luck for the year ahead.
Festivities continued on Feb. 2 with the 18th Avenue Lunar New Year Parade in Bensonhurst, featuring lion and dragon dances, cultural performances, and traditional music.
Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is one of the most important holidays in many East and Southeast Asian cultures.
