Oswaldo Ramos, a 50-year-old with a history of crime, was apprehended after attempting to attack a 70-year-old woman. Following this assault in The Bronx, local vigilantes recognized him from surveillance footage and severely beat him, leading to his hospitalization. The NYPD arrested Ramos shortly after the vigilante attack, charging him with attempted rape and burglary. His criminal record predominantly consists of robberies and burglaries, raising concerns about his lengthy history as a repeat offender before this recent incident.
Oswaldo Ramos, 50, approached the senior from behind at Creston Avenue and East 184th Street in Fordham Heights around 1 p.m. Friday before attempting to sexually assault her.
Vigilante neighbors spotted the wanted man nearby after apparently recognizing him from the released footage and took matters into their own hands, roughing him up to the point that he needed medical care.
The exact nature of his injuries was unclear. Ramos was last arrested Oct. 6, 2018, for allegedly robbing a Bronx deli while claiming that he'd just shot a cop.
Most of Ramos' prior arrests have been for robberies and burglaries, according to authorities.
