A devastating fire in Queens resulted in the death of three men, ages 45, 52, and 67, and injuries to four others. The three-alarm blaze erupted early in the morning on Chevy Chase St., prompting frantic emergency calls. Witnesses noted the intense flames and smoke, with neighbors describing their desperate attempts to escape by jumping through windows. Firefighters responded swiftly, but the investigation into the fire's cause is ongoing. The victims, who have not yet been identified, were part of a family described positively by those who knew them.
"I heard popping sounds and when I looked outside, I just saw orange and smoke," a neighbor who only identified himself as Alex S. said.
"While I was calling 911, there was a man in the window with a flashlight," he said. "I saw him drop the flashlight and I honestly don't remember if I saw him jump or not, but I saw him trying to get out through the window."
Neighbors described the occupants as "a nice family" that had lived in the two-family home on the quiet street for "a while."
