Luigi's Pizza has served the Park Slope community for over 50 years, evolving into more than just a pizzeria. Owner Giovanni Lonzo aims to create a neighborhood store experience, reminiscent of his childhood. Following in his father Luigi's footsteps, he maintains the same simple and fresh ingredients that characterize their pizzas. Lonzo highlights the changing dynamics of their community due to rising costs, lamenting the loss of family-centric connections that historically defined their patrons, yet proudly continues his family's legacy in making great pizza.
“I want people to come in here and feel like this is their neighborhood store,” owner Giovanni Lonzo told Brooklyn Paper. “Because [when] I grew up here, every store was a neighborhood store. That's changing.”
“Today everything has changed. They try to reinvent the wheel, but the bottom line is, it's still around,” Lonzo said. “I keep it the way I was brought up, the way my father was taught in 1961.”
