MTA chair and CEO Janno Lieber stated, "We announced our next five-year Capital Plan this month and there's a lot of work to be done... this includes billions of dollars of work to be done by our diverse contracting community." He emphasized that the MTA is committed not only to rebuilding the transit system but doing so through partnerships with diverse businesses, showcasing a dedication to an equitable and inclusive economy.
Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer Lourdes Zapata highlighted the initiative by mentioning that, "The MTA is committed to awarding between $6.5 billion and $7.5 billion in contracts to NY State Certified Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprises, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. This level of investment represents a significant step towards fostering an inclusive economy that uplifts underutilized businesses."
