The MTA has initiated a 60-day warning phase for drivers on select bus routes equipped with Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) to reduce illegal parking behaviors.
ACE technology is credited with enhancing bus performance and street safety, demonstrated by a 5% uptick in bus lane speeds and a 20% drop in collision rates.
During the warning phase starting September 16, violations captured by ACE will only result in warnings, transitioning to monetary penalties of $50 to $250 after 60 days.
Only 9% of drivers who received fines through the ACE system reoffended, indicating the program's potential effectiveness in deterring illegal parking in bus lanes.
