Gang way! MTA unveils new walk-through subway cars on Brooklyn Queens train line
Briefly

The MTA introduced its new open gangway trains on the G line, enhancing the subway experience for its daily 160,000 riders. Features include brighter interiors, wider doors, better lighting, and digital displays for real-time information. The open-gangway design allows passengers to easily move between train cars, improving comfort and safety. With a spaceship-like aesthetic, these R211T models are designed for greater accessibility. They’re seen as a significant modernization step for New York City's subway system, building on similar recent deployments on the C line.
Open gangways offer a unique experience for G train riders. They are open from end to end, so customers have the ability to walk from one end to the opposite end to where there is space.
The R211T cars have a futuristic, spaceship-like look. Similar to an articulated bus, the open gangway creates an accordion or movable-panel floor that allows straphangers to traverse the train throughout their trip.
