On Wednesday morning, firefighters faced severe arctic conditions while combating a three-alarm fire in Flatbush that rapidly escalated. Units from Engine Company 255 and Tower Ladder 15 responded to a residential blaze that had extensively spread through a two-and-a-half-story wooden structure. Despite challenging circumstances including frozen hydrants, low water pressure, and a partial roof collapse, firefighters successfully rescued an elderly man suffering from smoke inhalation. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital. The FDNY Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which was brought under control early in the morning.
While working to extinguish the flames, crews rescued an elderly man who was inside and inhaling heavy smoke.
This fire got out of control quickly, a neighbor told Brooklyn Paper. The firefighters are doing the best they can, but this weather is too fierce for fighting a major fire.
