A 911 call at about 7:45 p.m. on Memorial Day reported a multi-vehicle collision at Francis Lewis Boulevard and Union Turnpike in Fresh Meadows. Police said a 2013 Toyota Prius driven by 22-year-old Dawood Faisal ran a steady red signal southbound and struck a 2023 Nissan Rogue and a 2026 Mercedes-Benz. The impact pushed the Rogue into two pedestrians crossing in a marked crosswalk. A 71-year-old woman suffered severe head trauma and was listed in critical condition at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, while a 70-year-old man had minor injuries and was stable. Officers arrested Faisal at the scene of a second nearby collision and booked him at the 107th Precinct on a leaving-the-scene charge, with additional charges pending.
