'This extension request was thoroughly reviewed and responds to the State of New York's continued emergency declaration,' stated Jennifer T. Nersesian, emphasizing the balance between community services and public safety.
While the shelter is operational, officials assure that 'visitor access, public safety and preservation of natural and cultural resources are our top priorities' at Floyd Bennett Field.
Residents near the shelter have reported an increase in panhandling since the opening of the shelter, reflecting concerns from the community regarding the impacts of its presence.
