Just after 12:45 p.m. on June 8, units responded to heavy smoke pouring out from the roof of a two-story attached dwelling near East 78th Street and Flatlands Avenue in Canarsie. More than 100 firefighters used five hose-lines to knock down the main body of the fire, which quickly spread to the building's cockloft.
Just as that fire was coming under control, another blaze broke out near East 53rd Street and Avenue D in East Flatbush. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke bursting out of the one-story commercial iron making shop, deploying four hose-lines to knock down the main body of the fire.
