On January 30, 2025, firefighters from the FDNY quickly controlled a basement fire in a two-story building located at 159 East 96th Street in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Responding shortly after 12:15 p.m., they encountered smoke emanating from the basement. Utilizing two hose lines, firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 12:45 p.m. Fortunately, a cat escaped the premises, and further searches indicated no additional occupants were inside. An investigation into the cause of the fire will be conducted by the FDNY Fire Marshal.
