Darren Brathwaite, 39, received a 15-year prison sentence after a jury convicted him of multiple felonies including second-degree kidnapping, first-degree attempted assault, and second-degree robbery. The attack occurred April 29, 2023, when Brathwaite picked up his ex-girlfriend in East Flatbush, became enraged after she refused to reconcile, and assaulted her with punches and a knife while driving. He stabbed her in the neck and thigh, choked her, and later abandoned her on the Wantagh State Parkway. The victim survived by fighting through severe injuries and getting help. Justice Elizabeth Warin imposed the sentence following the Sept. 30 conviction.
