The City University of New York (CUNY) has launched a transfer initiative for Spring 2025, enhancing the transfer process for students transferring in Fall 2025 among its 25 colleges. This initiative aims to align course requirements and reduce credit loss, saving students average excess credit costs of $1,220. It also combats national trends of credit loss during transfers, which can lead to delayed graduations. With an automated evaluation system, students can easily assess credit transfers, starting with the six most common majors, supporting their academic journey more efficiently.
The initiative addresses a national crisis in credit loss during college transfers. Studies show that students lose an average of 20% of their credits when moving between institutions.
Spring is time for new beginnings, and we are excited to start this semester with new efforts to support our students as they grow personally, professionally and academically.
Under the new system, students will be able to see how their credits transfer between the 25 CUNY colleges via an automated process in CUNYfirst.
The transfer overhaul will save our students time, money and frustration as they move from our community colleges to senior colleges.
