The Hate Crime Task Force launched an investigation after the bench was defaced with anti-LGBTQIA+ slurs. This vandalism marks the second incident in a month.
"This one hits a lot harder because it's also a memorial to a child who was a member of the community," said Jason Graubard, co-director of Gay Ridge.
Gay Ridge condemned the act as a spread of "hate, division, and pain" and emphasized the importance of unity against such acts in the community.
A local good Samaritan painted over the hateful graffiti, showcasing the strength of community support despite the act of vandalism.
