Early in the morning of January 8, 2025, a three-alarm fire at a deli in Brooklyn presented numerous challenges for firefighters battling freezing temperatures and frozen hydrants. The blaze started inside the deli and rapidly spread to the apartments above, prompting increased alarm status and the mobilization of 138 firefighters from 33 units to control the situation. Despite the harsh weather conditions, the fire was brought under control by 7:20 a.m., with no serious injuries reported.
Firefighters faced significant obstacles due to the freezing weather, as frozen hydrants and conditions inside the deli hampered efforts to extinguish the flames promptly. The situation was aggravated when the fire quickly spread from the deli to multiple apartments in the building, resulting in the call for a third alarm as it became apparent that the blaze was growing increasingly out of control.
