Bjarke Ingels Group's design for a new project in Gowanus, Brooklyn, may not materialize after the property changed ownership. The new owners, Tavros Capital and Charney Companies, plan to replace it with a 1,000-unit residential development, significantly larger than its predecessor. The site, which was used as a Verizon parking lot, has already been remediated and includes a tax break. COO Justin Pelsinger emphasized the development as an important opportunity to transform the neighborhood, as Gowanus faces a rapidly changing landscape with their previous projects already in motion.
The property at 175 Third St. was purchased by Tavros Capital and Charney Companies, who plan to develop a large-scale residential project on the site.
Charney Companies COO touted the site as "a truly scarce opportunity â one of the final large-scale multi-family development parcels left in Gowanus, and indeed, much of Brooklyn."
