Age Is Just a Number: NYC Hiring Event Highlights Value of Older New Yorkers in the Workforce
Briefly

More than 500 older New Yorkers attended the Talent Connect Hiring Hall at Brooklyn Borough Hall, organized by NYC Aging and Workforce Development. This initiative aims to fight ageism in employment, showcasing the value older adults bring to the economy. With 27 employers from various sectors present, the event offered job seekers resources like interviews and networking opportunities. Mayor Eric Adams and Commissioner Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez highlighted the importance of older workers, who remain a vital, skilled workforce despite facing discrimination.
"Older adults have contributed so much to our society, and they continue to make their mark in more ways than one," said NYC Aging Commissioner Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez. "Older workers bring knowledge, reliability, and perspective, making them some of the most dedicated and hardworking employees. But ageism continues to prevent them from receiving the opportunities they deserve."
Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the significance of older adults, stating, "They are leaders of our families and beacons of wisdom in our communities. They worked hard to build a better future for themselves and their families."
