Under the bright and sunny November sky, residents and neighbors formed lines that wrapped around the block to receive kosher and halal turkeys, as well as hot halal meals, just in time for the holiday season.
Local comedian Gary Suharik, better known as Baba Fira, stopped by to entertain families. His appearance delighted everyone, offering up humor, turkeys and Russian recipe tips from the old country.
Vernikov expressed gratitude to all who contributed, calling the giveaway 'a heartwarming success.' "It was our pleasure to ensure that everyone who attended can enjoy a warm meal ahead of the upcoming holiday season," she said.
The event was made possible through partnerships with the Met Council, the Council of Peoples Organization (COPO) led by Mohammad Razvi, and the Turkic Foundation of Brooklyn.
