158th Memorial Day Parade fundraiser fires on all cylinders
Briefly

The United Military Veterans of Kings County hosted a successful fundraising event at the Salty Dog to support Brooklyn's annual Memorial Day Parade. With a $20 donation, attendees enjoyed live performances from six local bands. Raymond Aalbue, chair of the parade, emphasized the importance of recognizing those who served in the military while appealing to younger veterans for support. Hon. Matthew D'Emic, who also performed, noted the significance of community involvement and the therapeutic aspect of music. The event showcases the unity and dedicated support of Bay Ridge residents for their veterans.
"We want people to enjoy good music from bands that are incidentally playing for free, socialize and support a worthy cause," Aalbue said. "Brooklyn, and specifically Bay Ridge residents, always come out."
"To get up there and entertain for an hour is the least we can do," he said. "Music is an ideal stress reducer and a way to connect with the community."
