Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has requested information from the federal government regarding ICE's operations in the city. She criticized the administration for its lack of transparency about arrests and emphasized the need for clarity in law enforcement practices. Wu directly addressed 'border czar' Tom Homan, advising him to reassess their methods. She announced an executive order aimed at increasing transparency, with plans to submit Freedom of Information Act requests concerning immigration enforcement activities. Wu articulated the importance of public trust in law enforcement and highlighted the safety of Boston as a priority.
"My advice to Tom Homan and ICE is to take a time-out. Reassess what you are doing and how you are doing it," Wu said.
"In Boston, our officers wear badges, they do not routinely wear masks. We are clear about the reasons for potential arrests or interactions," she said.
