North Shore firefighter facing rape charges placed on leave
Briefly

Lieutenant Frank Anthony Pappalardo of the Nahant Fire Department has been placed on administrative leave with pay after facing serious charges including multiple counts of rape and assault. The Lt. pleaded not guilty in Essex Superior Court and was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. Nahant Town Administrator Tony Barletta announced the decision to place Pappalardo on paid leave, which may change to unpaid depending on upcoming hearings. Pappalardo, who has served in the department since 2004, previously received the Medal of Valor for saving lives in a 2021 fire incident.
Pappalardo was arraigned on multiple charges including four counts of rape, while being placed on paid leave pending the results of a dangerousness hearing.
Nahant Town Administrator Tony Barletta stated that this administrative leave is in line with the collective bargaining agreement, and could shift to unpaid depending on future hearings.
