Man convicted more than 3 decades after raping 2 women at gunpoint in Framingham store
"Despite all of the effort devoted to this case when it occurred, the technology simply did not exist to identify the perpetrator. Those advances in technology, coupled with the persistence of all involved brought us to today."
"On Dec. 27, 1989, Gale entered a Framingham Hit or Miss store, just as the two victims were opening the store for the day. Gale asked for help before pulling a handgun on them."
"Gale coerced the victims into removing their clothing, confined them into separate rooms, and raped both of them while holding a gun to their heads."
Stephen Paul Gale, 73, was convicted of four counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of armed robbery for crimes committed in 1989. Gale evaded capture for over thirty years, adopting multiple identities and moving across the country. His arrest in 2024 was facilitated by modern DNA technology. Gale was found living on a luxury yacht and led police on an 82-minute car chase. He is scheduled for sentencing on March 30, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney.
