L.L.Bean, known for its flagship store in Freeport, Maine, surprisingly opened a store in Tokyo in 1992 due to increasing demand from Japanese customers. This decision stemmed from a notable increase in Japanese tourists and mail orders, indicating a strong brand affinity in Japan. Since then, L.L.Bean has expanded to 25 locations across the country and collaborated with the likes of Beams and artist Hiroshi Wataya. Recently, L.L.Bean is bringing exclusive Japanese-designed products to the U.S. through pop-up shops in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, offering unique styles tailored for the Japanese market.
The brand had noticed over the prior couple of years that more and more Japanese customers were visiting the flagship store.
At pop-up shops in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, fans can get a taste of exclusive pieces designed specifically for the Japanese market.
