Jadu is a new café in Jamaica Plain that serves coffee and light meals such as pistachio butter-slathered sourdough toast and breakfast sandwiches. Owner Maya Mukhopadhaya envisions it as a community gathering spot, reflecting a growing trend of venues serving dual purposes. Jadu opened in December 2024 and operates as a café from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, with plans to transition to a wine bar in the evenings. This aligns with the recent opening of similar venues in the Boston area, catering to both daytime and nighttime crowds.
"I love coffee and I love wine, and I see them as conduits for gathering," says owner Maya Mukhopadhaya, reflecting on the community aspect of Jadu.
Jadu operates from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. six days a week, with plans to become a wine bar in the evenings by mid-year.
