After moving from Stonington, CT, to Boston, I faced unexpected challenges due to my recent diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The city’s fast-paced lifestyle clashed with my sensory sensitivities, making it difficult to find and maintain a fulfilling job. Despite numerous employment attempts, including positions in retail and transcription, I struggled to cope with the public transport and crowded environments. My experiences ultimately taught me valuable lessons about my neurodivergence and personal resilience, despite the difficult circumstances that led me to leave the city after just a year.
I couldn't land a consistent job I wanted. I started working in retail, first at Tiffany & Co., but I didn't make it through training.
The glitzy city of Boston felt like the logical next step, so in 2010, I moved from my small hometown of Stonington, CT, expecting to love it.
