Fabian Schmidt, a 34-year-old German national, was detained at Boston Logan International Airport by U.S. Customs and Border Protection upon returning from Luxembourg. His family claims he experienced a 'violent interrogation' involving stripping and exposure to cold water, resulting in medical attention. Schmidt, a green card holder living in the U.S. for over 20 years, allegedly had his green card marked due to a failed hearing notification sent to an old address. U.S. Customs and Border Protection denied these allegations, labeling them as false.
"There were unnecessary interrogation tactics imposed," David Keller, who is representing Schmidt, told WPRI. "It broke him to the point where medically speaking he needed to be transported to the hospital."
"These claims are blatantly false with respect to CBP," Hilton Beckham, assistant commissioner of public affairs, said in a statement.
