State Senator Michael Brady has introduced a petition to designate South Shore bar pizza as the official pizza of Massachusetts. This type of pizza, known for its thin crust and individual serving size, originated in Brockton's Cape Cod Cafe in 1939. Unlike other regional pizza styles, bar pizza is not widely recognized outside New England but has gained popularity through social media. This initiative has support from fellow lawmakers and is seen as a way to celebrate the unique culinary heritage of the state.
"Bar pizza, a type of pizza characterized by its thin, crispy crust, individual 10-inch pan size, edge-to-edge cheese, and a unique preparation style common to the South Shore region of the Commonwealth, shall be the official pizza of the Commonwealth."
"South Shore bar pizza is totally unique," said Scott Riebling, one of the founders of Stoked Pizza. "There's nothing else like it anywhere."
