"It's happened to all of us," said Attorney General Andrea Campbell during a press conference on "junk fees." Hidden fees inflate costs and can be extremely costly."
"But not anymore," she added, announcing new consumer protection regulations to combat "junk fees" in Massachusetts, aiming for transparency and cost understanding for consumers."
"Junk fees are hidden, unexpected, or unnecessary costs that inflate a product's price beyond its advertised amount," said Campbell, highlighting the issue's prevalence.
The regulations will "help consumers understand the total cost of a product or service upfront, avoid unnecessary charges, and easily cancel unwanted costs related to trial and subscription offers," according to Campbell.
